I have performed all aspects of marine survey
navigation procedures on marine seismic survey
vessels from installation, calibration and
equipment maintenance to logistical survey
planning, data quality control , data recording
and final product p190 navigation data
processing.
A thorough understanding of navigation principles
has been obtained and knowledge of both
radionavigation and satellite positioning systems
gleaned. Inwater system experience has included
Digicourse and Sonardyne acoustics, Tailbuoy GPS,
Laser ranging systems including MARS and
Lasertrak. The main navigation system I have used
has been Spectra from Concept Systems but I have
also experience of Starseis, Totalnav and Gin 3.
I have experience of Reflex in a job startup
context and for ongoing survey updates. As a
navigation data processor I have used Sprint from
Concept systems.
Unix and subsequently Linux have been the
operating platforms on which all essential
software has been based with the exception of
Starseis. An in depth knowledge of Unix up to
Solaris 2 and Red Hat Linux 8.0 along with
scripting has been required to manage the data
flow from acquisition to final product on data
recording media. Installation of software,
patches and upgrades have all had to be performed
on a regular basis to comply with ever changing
client requests. Computer and peripheral hardware
installation has been undertaken along with cable
configuration for interfacing including inwater
senors. |

INTERESTS
Upgrading and building computers for the home
and installing fixed wired network in the house
for fast broadband access and LAN. Performing
various DIY duties including wiring, wall and
floor tiling, wooden floor laying, plumbing and
decorating. I try to get the best out of what
nature has to offer in the garden whilst keeping
the kids happy with enough play area.
I keep active by playing golf , football, hill
walking, mountain biking and swimming although
all less frequently than I would like due to our
two young children but there are no regrets
there. |
